Double Double is the newest recording from long-time musical partners Chase Sanborn on flugelhorn and Mark Eisenman on piano. Drawing from a repertoire that includes standards, jazz classics and original compositions, Chase and Mark embrace the opportunities and challenges inherent in the duo format. They eschew the usual roles of soloist and accompanist, tossing phrases back and forth in a series of fresh and extemporaneous performances. Musical simpatico is on full display as the two musicians prod and challenge each other towards moments ranging from sparse beauty to technical virtuosity.
This recording was performed on two exceptional instruments: a pre-production version of the new Yamaha YFH8315 flugelhorn and a Steinway B piano tuned and maintained by Marc Decorte. The honest and natural recorded sound is the hallmark of engineer John Loach. Musically and sonically, Double Double rewards the listener at every turn.
